I bought this shredder about 18 months ago for modest office use, shredding about 50 A4 sheets a week on typical. The retailer said the cutter had a lifetime guarantee and continues to advertise it as such. About 6 months ago it began to shred unevenly and when inspected a number of of the plastic teeth in the cutter unit had sheared off. Now it is barely able to deal with 1 sheet of paper. The supplier did not want to know and said that the warranty covered only the metal parts, not the plastic. The truth they they are integral is overlooked! Swordfish themselves are quite complicated to contact. I would have liked to value a new shredder unit but just cannot get a deal with on that. It worked very happily initially even though could under no circumstances cope with ten sheets of A4 (thin) as advertised. Predicament: What to do subsequent as I have to be able to shred sensitive documents.
I've been utilizing this shredder for a couple of years with out any concerns. The cross cut reduces documents to little 2 centimetre pieces ensuring that the waste is secure. This also implies you don't have to empty the bin as frequently given that the waste paper is alot more compact. The unit handles 15 pages comfortably - even though I suspect from the slower feed rate a lot far more than this would cause a jam. I have also shredded credit cards and CDs with out difficulty - although only 1 at a time.
If you happen to be shopping for a shredder I would also recommend acquiring oil for the blades as not oiling shredders shortens their life considerably.
