Bought my Wife this shredder for Xmas. She utilized it for a few minutes and then it stopped operating. Problem was a paper jam. She had fed the machine no extra than two sheets at a time and it still jammed. Reversing the motor didn't zero cost up the jam either. When I looked at it you could hear the motor operating in the forward or reverse path but the teeth on the cutting wheel weren't moving. I decided to pull it apart in the hope of freeing up some of the paper and getting everyhting working again. Soon after 30minutes the machine was apart and any paper removed. Nevertheless, the issue was that in between the motor and the cutting wheel had been a bunch of gears. Some were metal and some were plastic. Essentially what had occurred was that the worm gear straight from the motor was created of metal and meshed with a different worm gear but this was created of plastic. A portion of the plastic worm gear had it really is teeth worn off and couldn't bedriven any much more. Obviously the paper jam had stopped the cutting wheel from moving. The motor didn't quit when the jam was detected (like it should really have) and the motor continued to turn it is metal worm gear against the non-moving plastic worm gear resulting in it becoming worn down. This is poor design placing metal gears to drive plastic gears as in a high torque device such as the shredder it is apparent the plastic gears are going to get worn out. Did not feel it would take just a handful of minuites although.
Nevertheless the machinhe does appear nice even if it doesn't perform anymore.
Even immediately after cleaning it out thoroughly it can not cut a single sheet without having overheating. That sheet is also far from correctly cut. I'm now off to obtain one other shredder. Hopefully a single that will final longer than the warranty!
