Costumer Critiques

This is a crosscut shredder which claims to cut to to level three security confetti- (appears to be 435mm). I've tested it and it does shred ten sheets of 80gsm A4 paper at as soon as. You can shred credit cards by inserting one particular dead centre in the paper slot (not tested but). The CD slot cuts off the outer "wings" of the CD so that you have three pieces- safer than snapping the tiny suckers. I decided on this slighty far more high-priced (white) version as the comparable model in the "black" series stated that it embossed the cds with dimples- I wasn't positive how productive that would be. The manufacturer guarantee is for two years.

So soon after 2 weeks- I'm absolutely happier with a shredder with a drawer. Previously I've had a easier model (Rexel) which annoyed me given that you had to lift off the heavy best just to see if it had jammed for the reason that there was too substantially shredded paper in - or if it had just jammed. So despite the reality it takes up the space of a large waste paper basket- the ease of checking how complete it is outweighs its footprint. Don't be alarmed by the image- that cut away on the drawer has a clear plastic insert behind it. I'm not too impressed by the castors which glide like a possessed supermarket trolley.

As to use- this shredder is not ever going to function on one particular of those movies exactly where the feds are moving in and the dodgy businessmen are destroying all the evidence. The instructions claim you can shred for Three minutes only prior to you need to let the cutters cool down for 20 minutes. Otherwise it'll switch itself off and not let you play for a full 50 minutes. So for me this is fine- I'm on prime of my papertrail and I'm genuinely only working with it on a daily basis to go by means of the post- making positive anything with my address is in tiny pieces as everyone advises these days. As the manufacturer's dotcom web site (Snopake) isn't rather revealing I'm quite glad I went for the ten sheet model- just so that if there are a few issues to destroy, they are gone in one particular or two passes. If you have a heavier paperload then you could possibly want to feel about the 15 or 20 sheet versions- but of course that expenses added and crikey 80 quid appears adequate to pay for an electronic hamster.

Maintenance. Apparently given that cross cut shredders generate far alot more fine particles than a simple shredder, it really is imperative to keep sustaining your machine with regular oiling. And- surprise surprise, they claim that you need a specialist oil and WD40 won't cut it. Now the directions, such as they are contradict themselves as to how normally you want to oil. The minimum appears to be monthly or when you have filled the bin (120 A4 sheets). Otherwise oil just about every fortnight.

If you happen to be expecting zero cost oiling sheets as per the item description, you're most likely to be diappointed as I was and Amazon so far haven't come up with a solution to the missing bits devoid of causing me significant inconvenience. The instructions also suggest oiling the cutters directly with a spray can/oil bottle or adding oily lines to a piece of paper and feeding it by means of. Almost certainly any shredder oil will do- I'm attempting the "Swordfish" brand when I at some point fill the bin.

1 July 2010- the shredder is nevertheless going strong, but two of its tiny wheels have snapped off ( and I've been gentle!) As the issue with previous (Fellowes) shredders was with the sensor failing, I'm still impressed with Swordfish (wheels aren't everything!)

I bought this item in November 2008 and whilst it shreds beautifully, if it was placed in sunlight it tended to misread the "bin complete" signal and turn itself off. This was resolved by keeping it out of sunlight. This fault was acknowledged by the manufacturer.

Nevertheless, this morning for no apparent cause the machine came pretty close to catching fire. It was plugged in but not switched on. There was a robust smell and fortunately I had opened a door next to the machine since smoke began pouring out of it, suitable against the curtains. The machine was red hot. I feel it would have caught fire within minutes if not seconds. Fortunately I was in a position to unplug it and push it outside, but I hate to think what would have happened had I not been at property.

This is a rather serious fault and whilst the corporation I bought it from, by means of Amazon, have been most valuable and offered to replace it immediately, I would have severe doubts about getting a different one.
