Manufacturer's Description

Fellowes P-58Cs

Fellowes, manufacturer of the World's Toughest Shredders

Fellowes shredders are packed with innovation that makes the shredding process both safe and easy; the Fellowes Powershred P-58Cs is no exception.

The P-58Cs is a powerful Home/Home Office shredder designed with user safety in mind, ensuring it is safe and easy to use in any family environment.

Featuring the innovative SafeSense Technology and a comprehensive 2 year machine / 5 year cutter warranty you can feel assured you are in safe hands.

Safe As Houses

The unique SafeSense Technology provides the ultimate in user safety by automatically stopping the shredder when hands come into contact with the paper entry, no matter how small they are.

As Cool As Ice

The P-58Cs also features a thermal overload protector which stops the shredder temporarily when it senses it is getting too hot. Once activated, the shredder will shut down and a red light will advise you that this safety protector has activated.

No Sticky Situations

Built within the on/off switch is a sheet capacity gauge which is measured to the cutter tolerance. This helps prevent paper jams by ensuring the cutters are not overwhelmed. Should the cutters ever become overwhelmed the P-58Cs features an electronic reverse mode to help remove the excess paper.

Fearless Shredding

As well as being able to handle 9 sheets at a time, the P-58Cs cuts each A4 sheet of paper into 320 pieces measuring just 3.9x50mm (DIN Level 3), virtually an impossible task to piece back together.

At Fellowes we know that people shred twice as much as they think they do. This is why Fellowes have fitted the P-58Cs with a strong and robust motor that can shred non-stop for up to 3-5 minutes. This enables the P-58Cs to shred up to 547 sheets of A4 paper per cycle.

Credit Card! What Credit Card?

As well as shredding huge quantities of paper the teeth of the P-58Cs can also shred staples, credit cards and paperclips with ease

Heads Up

The P-58Cs features a light and easy lift head, ensuring that waste disposal is as easy as possible with no strain on the user.

Don't Regret It, Shred It!

Identity Fraud is on the increase. By not shredding all confidential paper waste prior to disposal, you could be putting yourself and your company at risk. Shred anything that you would not want to fall into the hands of a stranger, from bank statements, utility bills and credit card receipts in the home to financial information, legal documents, client information and sales data in the workplace.

Costumer Evaluations

I purchased this when my two year old Fellowes P400C-two lastly gave up the ghost following a week of fairly heavy use. I've began digitizing about 20 years of accumulated paperwork and shredding as I go along, and the old shredder quietly expired! Nonetheless, I was happy with the Fellowes brand and with a budget of about the £50 mark the P-58Cs was an obvious alternative.

The unit itself measures around 9.five inches wide, 15 inches deep and nearly 16 inches tall, so as a 'personal' shredder it is really chunky. However, it is a solidly built unit and the slightly larger than average size should not put you off, and remember this shredder stands sideways on with the narrowest side facing towards you. All the functions you'd expect at this value are present with auto on/off for when sheets are inserted, a manual reverse mode in case of jams (way more on that later) and a safety cut-out. On the matter of safety, the paper/card entry slot is wide enough to accept a credit card or about 9 sheets of paper, but is narrow sufficient to prevent tiny prying fingers. Nonetheless, with 'SafeSense' activated, the shredder will quit immediately if a person touches the edge of the paper entry slot (marked by the silver surround in the photo). In addition to that, there's both an On/Off/Reverse switch on the leading of the unit and a mains power switch on the rear close to the top, creating this a pretty secure machine due to the fact a number of indicates of switching it off promptly are within hassle-free reach.

In operation the unit is fairly quiet and effortlessly handles 7 or 8 typical A4 sheets at a time, staples and all, slowing only slightly when feeding it 9 sheets of 'good quality' paper. Handily the On/Off/Reverse switch on the top rated of the machine has a groove in it that you can use for measuring the stack of papers you want to shred - basically of the sheets fit into the groove, the shredder will manage them. Credit cards are also dispatched with comparable ease, but contrary to what the (brief) manual suggests this machine will not shred CDs - I identified out the challenging way but thankfully was able to eject the half-eaten CD applying the reverse switch.

The lid is effortlessly removed to allow emptying of the bin, and is also effortless to replace afterwards for the reason that the tapered shape implies it locates without any fiddling about, although the size and weight (three.8Kg) mean it really is a two-handed job. The bin will need to hold up to 22 litres of your shredded secrets, and you can see when it's getting complete via a small perspex window. My only minor niggle on that score is that the paper tends to form a mound in the middle of the bin as it fills up which means you will most likely finish up emptying it slightly extra frequently than the 22 litre capacity could possibly recommend.

The manufacturer quotes a duty cycle of in between 10-20 'paper passes' a day - so that is 180 or so sheets you can turn happily feed into it, and it's fairly satisfying to see all sorts of paperwork being promptly and safely turned into confetti. I would surely advise this to everyone with £50 to invest on a shredder.

I purchased this machine to replace my prior Ryman's shredder as the motor gave upthrough heavy use and I didn't oil it. This one shreds credit cards, up to 9 pieces of standard A4 paper and staples. It is speedy but fairly noisy. Top lifts off effortlessly to empty container and it holds a week's worth of day-to-day shredding from a house office. As the base is plastic it is light-weight but doesn't slide effortlessly over a carpet to pull out for emptying (I preserve mine under my desk). The cross-cut is ok but not as tiny as the Ryman's shredder. It has a 'safe sensor' so that you don't shred your fingers - but a bit 'gimmicky'. More than all a functional piece of gear and superior value.
